Building Primary-School Children’s Resilience through a Web-Based Interactive Learning Environment: Quasi-Experimental Pre-Post Study

Background Resilience is a person’s mental ability to deal with challenging situations adaptively and crucial stress management skill. Psychological resilience finding ways cope in crises highly relevant topic considering the COVID-19 pandemic, which enforced quarantine, social distancing measures, school closures worldwide. Parents children are currently living increased due COVID-19. We need respond immediate strengthen children’s resilience. Internet-based cognitive behavioral therapy interventions for children's overcome accessibility issues such as inability visit health experts owing movement restrictions. An interactive learning environment was created, based on preventive program “Friends,” associated delivering therapy–based formal informal education settings. Objective This study aimed examine effectiveness of web-based (1) reducing anxiety symptoms (2) increasing emotion recognition techniques among 9-10-year-old children. also evaluate environment’s usability. Methods A quasi-experimental pretest-posttest control group design used. In total, 20 fourth graders experimental interacted over 6 weekly 80-minute sessions. Further, 21 constituted group. The main data sources were psychometric tool measure symptoms, namely Greek translation original Spence Children’s Anxiety Scale, 3 open-ended questions assessing techniques, (3) System Usability Scale usability environment. Results both groups, there small but nonsignificant postintervention reduction reported except obsessive-compulsive disorder paired samples t test revealed that students’ symptom scores significantly decreased from 1.06 (SD 0.68) 0.76 0.61) (t19= 5.16; P=.01). significant increase (t19=–6.99; P<.001), identification somatic (t19=–7.31; (t19=–6.85; P<.001). received satisfactory score. raw average system score 76.75 8.28), 80th percentile rank corresponds grade B. Conclusions shows environments might deliver an accessible cost-effective manner education, potentially even distance-learning conditions pandemic. Interactive valuable tools parents who can use them their at home, learning, using mobile devices. As such, they could be promising first-step, low-intensity intervention youth easily access.
